Leo Lopshire (1945 – ) was a Mormon church member in Utah, Iowa and South Carolina; arrested June 30, 2026 and charged with multiple felonies related to child sexual abuse; a source told FLOODLIT that the church excommunicated Lopshire in the 2010s.

Leo Lyston Lopshire was a Mormon in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

On June 30, 2026, Lopshire was arrested and charged with four counts of sex / Lewd Act, commit or attempt lewd act upon child under 14.

According to someone familiar with Lopshire, he was employed by the LDS church when he lived around the Salt Lake City, UT area.  They stated:  “He was eventually excommunicated in the 2010s but this was after decades of abuse inside the church. He is still allowed to attend his ward and while the local leaders are aware of his crimes, they have not warned or told adults with young children in his ward about him.”

In addition, the source said “He was a young mens/Boy Scout leader in Salt Lake City in the 70s and almost certainly abused young men then. He would tell stories about how he would get the boys to go skinny dipping with him on camp outs.”

    SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — Spartanburg County deputies are asking for tips in an investigation involving child sexual abuse.

    The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said 81-year-old Leo Lopshire was arrested June 30 on four counts of lewd act on a minor under 14 years of age.

    Officials said Lopshire’s family member shared information involving incidents that allegedly occurred between August 1997 and August 2001.

    On Monday, July 6, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Leo Lyston Lopshire, who was arrested and charged on June 30 with four counts of lewd acts on a minor under the age of 14.

    The old saying, "what is done in the dark, always is brought into the light", comes to mind as an elderly Upstate man is facing child sex crime charges.

    The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says 81 year old, Leo Lopshire was arrested last week. He's charged with 4 counts of a lewd act on a minor under 14 years old.

    The Sheriff's Office says the charges came after a family member leveled accusations against Lopshire. The alleged incidents happened in the late 90's and early 2000's. Investigators believe there may be additional victims anyone with info should contact the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.
