The person who reported the case to FLOODLIT states that she was 16, that he provided alcohol to students in the dormitory, and that he later used his master key to enter the room where she was staying and sexually assaulted her until she screamed and he left.

He entered a plea in abeyance. In 2000 the Utah Attorney General’s Office examined the circumstances in which University of Utah police entered Thompson’s apartment and removed a notebook he said contained attorney-client privileged material; the office stated its review was limited to the handling of a 911 hang-up call and not to any connection with the sexual abuse charges. The reporting person states that he now works in a field bringing him into contact with children.
