FLOODLIT.org has launched an initiative to provide free access to court documents tied to sex crimes allegedly committed by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon/LDS) and claims of mishandling by church officials.
Since our non-profit began in 2022, we’ve tracked over 4,000 accused individuals in such cases. Recently, nearly 100 lawsuits hit the Mormon church in California alone.
Most court documents are public records, but finding and obtaining them can be difficult, expensive, stressful and time-consuming.
These public records — criminal filings, civil suits, and more — hold the power to reveal patterns, enable accountability, and spark change.
The Mormon church has called its abuse policies “the gold standard,” but has never released a list of credibly accused members or leaders.
So, we’re building a repository of truth to pull these court records into a bright spotlight and encourage honest discussion that honors survivors’ experiences, gives researchers tools to dig deeper, and empowers those who protect the vulnerable.
- On every case report in our database, a new “Docs” section offers free downloads of related court files with concise summaries. (See example)
- Our new Docs page has project updates and links to available documents.
- We’re scouring counties, states, and countries to find and share these records, redacting sensitive details to protect privacy. (Need unredacted files? Contact us.)
Our goal:
- By Apr. 1, 2025: 150 civil complaints and 500 total documents
- By Dec. 31, 2025: 2,000 documents
