The short version: Floodlit.org needs to raise $357 by tomorrow, July 31, in order to pay an electric bill. If you can chip in, please go to https://floodlit.org/donate/ – thank you so much!
First, we want to thank everyone who has donated to Floodlit before, or who has helped us in any way. If you’ve ever sent us case information, shared our website with a friend, sent us words of encouragement or done anything else to support Floodlit – thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We couldn’t have gotten this far without you.
We are an independent non-profit raising awareness about sexual abuse in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also commonly known as the Mormon church or LDS church). More about us: About FLOODLIT.org We are working towards 501(c)(3) status.
Our team consists of Jane, our executive director; Charlie, our “web guy;” and some wonderful volunteers. Jane and Charlie (we’re a married couple) have worked as investigative journalists for Floodlit since we started this organization in 2022.
We’re facing financial hardship. Charlie lost his job in 2023 and hasn’t found full-time work. We’ve been surviving off of intermittent part-time work.
Our home electricity is set to be shut off on Friday, August 1 unless we pay the bill by tomorrow, July 31. We’re $357 short at the moment, to pay the minimum amount to avoid disconnection. We’ve been able to set up an arrangement with the electric company to get caught up over time, as long as we make the $357 payment by tomorrow.
We are hopeful that there’s a light at the end of this tunnel. Charlie continues to apply for jobs and gigs everywhere he can. Jane is looking for sources of sustained funding for Floodlit.
We’re both working seven days a week to investigate reports of abuse, get court documents, communicate with survivors, and grow Floodlit’s database.
We recently published over 230 new case reports, bringing our total over 4,300.
This work never ends. In the last week alone, we’ve received over 50 new reports to follow up on – each one a heartbreaking story of abuse.
By shining a light on this topic, we believe we can help bring about positive change and healing.
