The short version: Floodlit.org needs to raise $357 by tomorrow, July 31, in order to pay an electric bill. If you can chip in, please go to https://floodlit.org/donate/ – thank you so much!
First, we want to thank everyone who has donated to Floodlit before, or who has helped us in any way. If you’ve ever sent us case information, shared our website with a friend, sent us words of encouragement or done anything else to support Floodlit – thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We couldn’t have gotten this far without you.
We are an independent non-profit raising awareness about sexual abuse in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also commonly known as the Mormon church or LDS church). More about us: About FLOODLIT.org We are working towards 501(c)(3) status.
Our team consists of Jane, our executive director; Charlie, our “web guy;” and some wonderful volunteers. Jane and Charlie (we’re a married couple) have worked as investigative journalists for Floodlit since we started this organization in 2022.
We’re facing financial hardship. Charlie lost his job in 2023 and hasn’t found full-time work. We’ve been surviving off of intermittent part-time work.
Our home electricity is set to be shut off on Friday, August 1 unless we pay the bill by tomorrow, July 31. We’re $357 short at the moment, to pay the minimum amount to avoid disconnection. We’ve been able to set up an arrangement with the electric company to get caught up over time, as long as we make the $357 payment by tomorrow.
We are hopeful that there’s a light at the end of this tunnel. Charlie continues to apply for jobs and gigs everywhere he can. Jane is looking for sources of sustained funding for Floodlit.
We’re both working seven days a week to investigate reports of abuse, get court documents, communicate with survivors, and grow Floodlit’s database.
We recently published over 230 new case reports, bringing our total over 4,300.
This work never ends. In the last week alone, we’ve received over 50 new reports to follow up on – each one a heartbreaking story of abuse.
By shining a light on this topic, we believe we can help bring about positive change and healing.
If you’d like to chip in to help us, please go to: https://floodlit.org/donate/
If you might have any job leads or would like to talk to us about anything, please go to: https://floodlit.org/contact/
Again, we thank you.
– Jane
Executive Director, Floodlit.org
Dear Jane and Charlie:
I want you to know how much I love and respect you noble guys at floodlit.org!
I am currently writing a movie script about my ordeal with the Mormons in 1977—when a big 6″5″ 400 pound Mormon missionary psycholgically, emotionally, and sexually abused me. I was a moral Christian girl, a virgin. The big brute HURT me and made me bleed!… Then I was further traumatized when the pious image-conscious Mormon PR Machine disseminated a well-orchestrated worldwide HOAX to the media that I raped HIM! This malicious lie destroyed my reputation, career, finances, health —and caused my mother’s tragic suicide when the Hoax was resurrected in a 2011 defamatory mockumentary film designed to degrade me by depicting me as “crazy”, lustful, and over-sexed.
Before the 1977 incident: I was happy young girl with a promising future, finishing my PhD in Film. I was attractive with a beautiful face and figure—a print model for Pepsi. I won a state beauty title and ran for “Miss USA”. I was a tiny petite 112 pound GIRL. I didn’t have to “rape” a 400 pound Mormon missionary, like the Mormon PR spokesmen said. I was the sexual
abuse VICTIM but they cunningly flipped the story!
If I can get my saga produced, and make any money from tell my story about my pain in my film, I plan to donate to floodlit.org— as you have been such an inspiration to me during my dark times as we share a common goal: to expose Mormon Sexual Abuse and how they always COVER UP. In my case, it was to the extreme.
If I get my bio-pic produced and make any money, I plan to donate to your cause, as you are truly brave hearts.
I would like to talk with you by phone, and share my story with you about my abuse incident, as it is different from any you have ever heard. MY SIDE OF THE STORY HAS NEVER BEEN TOLD. The Mormon cover up version [where they victim-blamed me by saying that I raped HIM] was promoted in international headlines! I was also exploited by tabloids, three books, rock songs, podcasts, chat rooms, and comic books. And there was a poster and a doll of me, plus merchandise with my photo, on everything from T-shirts to tea mugs, as well as a vulgar off-Broadway musical and a mockumentary so defamatory it caused my mother’s tragic suicide. In a 2022 book published and written by Mormons, the Mormon spokesman boasted that they actually used my painful saga to get publicity, saying “Ooohhh… we’ll make something G-O-O-D out of this”. In this book written by two Mormons, the church spokesman boasted that their 1977 tall tale “doubled their baptisms from 2000 to 4000 there that year”.
I need your help exposing their cover up! As a sexual assault victim, please do not post this— or use my real name as I do not want the Mormons to know my location, as in the past, I have had death threats from them by phone to silence me. Also I don’t want them to know I am planning a film, as they would have their lawyers try and stop my film as they do not want the Truth behind their 48 year ruse coming out! They know if the Truth comes out that Mormon Inc. will implode. I am the poster child for Mormon Sexual Abuse. I want to share by entire horrific story by phone, so can you send your office phone number to me at the e-mail below. Please keep it confidential as again, I do not want them to know my location.
I love you guys and respect you for what you are doing and the fact that (like me) you have made sacrifices to fight the epidemic of Mormon Sexual Abuse. I have been told my story has Oscar potential. If my film comes out, I plan to do talk shows about Mormon Sexual Abuse. Perhaps you can go on them with me to highlight Mormon Sexual Abuse. If any of your readers or supporters have any connection with the film industry, please let me know— as I am seeking an Executive Prodicer to get funding for my film.
With respect,
Me
