In 2011, Todd Tanner was convicted in Colorado of one count of attempted sexual assault on a child, and one misdemeanor count of sexual contact with no consent.
Thanks to a plea agreement, Tanner wasn’t required to serve jail time. Instead, a 48 month jail sentence was deferred and he was sentenced to 48 months probation and required to register as a sex offender.
Despite the charges and eventual conviction, Tanner was a driving force in a now popular Utah based “dirty soda” business called Swig.
Along with a co-founder, Tanner opened the first Swig shop in April 2010 in St. George, Utah, several weeks after being charged in Colorado.
In a 2014 St. George Spectrum article, Tanner’s Swig co-founder said, “When we first started, [Todd] would be the only one there. He’d open at 7:30(a.m.) and be there until 11(p.m.). It was after the first three or four months that it finally started to go.”
In the same article, Tanner was mentioned as a recipient of the Startup Business of the Year Award from the St. George Chamber of Commerce, along with his Swig co-founder.

Floodlit is not aware when Tanner stopped working at Swig or whether he retained any ownership in the company after it was sold in 2017. More details in our case report.
A person who said they knew Tanner told Floodlit that Tanner was their Sunday School teacher in St. George, Utah in around 2011-2013, when they were a teenager. At the time, Tanner had been convicted in Colorado of crimes related to sex abuse, but the person said they were not aware that Tanner was a convicted and registered sex offender.

In August 2025 a police officer stopped at Tanner’s residence in St. George, Utah to do a sex offender compliance check. When the officer arrested Tanner for failing to include a vehicle on his sex offender registration, he noticed that the street address on Tanner’s driver’s license did not match Tanner’s current residence.
Note: Todd Tanner’s middle name is listed on Colorado court documents as “Allen” but is listed in Utah court documents as “Alan”. His Utah sex offender registry record gives his name as Todd Allen Tanner and includes an alias of Todd Alan Tanner.
