Case report: Russell Kenneth Gatrell
Russ Gatrell was raised in the Mormon church in Utah.
In 2025, Gatrell was charged in Utah with felonies related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
“Gatrell admitted to viewing, downloading, and sharing child sexual abuse material from his residence. Gatrell admitted to storing the child sexual abuse material on a network storage device which contained upwards of 15 hard drives totaling approximately 280TB of storage,” a police affidavit obtained by Floodlit states.
Floodlit believes Gatrell may be the same Russ Gatrell who is known as a pioneer of Lego “brickfilms” or “brick films” in the late 1990s.
Gatrell’s parents were praised in an LDS general conference talk in 2014.
Gatrell is pronounced GAY-truhl.
