Scott Kidman, a Mormon and former Ogden, Utah fireman, was arrested in September 2025 on suspicion of three counts of object rape, a first-degree felony.
Thanks to your donations, Floodlit has obtained a copy of a police probable cause affidavit in Kidman’s case.
Floodlit recognizes the courage of multiple abuse survivors who came forward in the mid-2010s and in 2025, leading to Kidman’s arrest.
2010: Alleged Child Sexual Abuse Begins
According to the affidavit, Kidman began sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl, whom we’ll call Jane Doe 1, around the time of her “baptism in her religious organization.”
Jane Doe 1 provided investigators with a written, sworn statement detailing alleged abuse by Kidman over a period of several years, and was interviewed in person by a detective with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
The affidavit is graphic; if you choose to download, please be aware. We will provide a redacted copy.
Jane Doe 1 describes sexual abuse occurring while she would bathe in a bathroom.
Kidman allegedly drilled holes in walls to watch Jane Doe 1 bathe, the affidavit says.
Kidman left sex toys in a bathroom and told Jane Doe 1 to use them, she told investigators.
Jane Doe 1 and multiple other alleged victims described many grooming behaviors in addition to the sexual abuse.
On one occasion, Kidman allegedly brought a back massager into a room where Jane Doe 1 and several other girls were present, and had them take turns sitting on it, to see who could sit the longest.
Kidman allegedly told Jane Doe 1 to keep watch in the hall for other people coming.
Jane Doe 1 said when she around 10 years old, Kidman showed her a video of a woman sexually abusing a young girl who looked approximately 7 or 8 years old, then “told her it was normal for developing girls and she needed to get used to it.”
2015-16 Criminal Investigation
In 2015 and 2016, Kidman was investigated after multiple girls reported sexual abuse by him to interviewers at the Children’s Justice Center in Logan, Utah.
Charges were never filed, despite detailed accusations from two alleged victims.
One victim, Jane Doe 2, said Kidman showed her child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and sex toys. She said her mother confronted Kidman, who denied the allegations.
Jane Doe 2 told investigators there were holes in walls at Kidman’s home, including one above a bathroom toilet.
In January 2016, detectives served a search warrant on Kidman’s home in Millville, Utah and found several holes in a wall adjoining a bathroom. The shape and size of the holes and their location appeared consistent with allegations that Kidman, who is approximately 6 feet 7 inches tall, used them to look secretly into the bathroom.
Two other holes were found about five feet from the ground, allowing for a line of sight to a bathroom mirror that reflected a view of the shower.
Acoording to the affidavit, Kidman “was questioned about the holes, and he stated when [he] first had moved in to the residence 4 years’ prior, [he] had to remodel the bathroom. He stated that [he] had to re-wire some electrical wires in order to do this remodel.”
2025 Arrest
In August 2025, Kidman posted to a social media platform about being visited by and receiving a cooked meal from a member of his “church ward.”

2. 5 Alarm Heroes: Firefighters rush into burning building without gear
OGDEN — On October 16, 2011, a fast-moving fire at a Salt Lake City apartment complex forced dozens of people into the street. Everyone made it out alive because of two Ogden firefighters.
One of them, Ashley Phillips, said, "I think more than anything we were just trying to do the right thing."
Phillips and his partner, Scott Kidman, were working as paramedics that night and had just transported a child to Primary Children's Medical Center. They were on their way home when they spotted flames coming from the roof of the building.
Kidman said, "People are right under the fire looking at the fire, seeing stuff fall at their feet. So we know this is a dangerous situation."
Kidman and Phillips were the only firefighters on scene. They ran into the building and kicked in door after door, evacuating sleeping residents. By the time the first fire engine arrived, the building was almost empty.
"We've got a job to do no matter what city we are in. It really doesn't matter. It's the situation that matters," Kidman said.
He and Phillips displayed heroic efforts that night, putting the safety of others before their own. Kidman's wife, Charity, says it's typical behavior for a firefighter.
"I don't shut up talking about my husband because I'm super proud of what he does," she said.
Like a lot of firefighter's families, the Kidmans make the most of the time they have together. A firefighter's schedule isn't easy.
"We've got a job to do no matter what city we are in. It really doesn't matter. It's the situation that matters."
–Scott Kidman"I'm a single mom a lot," she said. "There are times he's gone for 24 hours at a time. Lots of times he comes home and he's so tired from the shift that he's out of it."
The Kidman children say they worry about their dad, but it helps knowing he's taking care of others. Daughter Rainee Kidman says she tell her friends at school that her dad helps save lives.
When working, Kidman and Phillips say they're constantly thinking of their families. Phillips currently is stationed in Eden and keeps a picture of his family in his helmet. It's been there for eight years.

3. Nibley man arrested for allegedly sexually abusing young girl
LOGAN — A 48-year-old Nibley man has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a young girl, according to law enforcement. Scott Kidman was booked Monday into the Cache County Jail after a warrant was issued by a judge.
According to the warrant affidavit, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies received a child sex abuse report in July. The alleged victim claimed Kidman had molested her numerous times years ago. The woman said the abuse began around January 2010, when she was 8 years old.
The alleged victim told deputies how Kidman began viewing her changing clothes and using the bathroom, while at a home in Millville. He would supposedly walk into the bathroom or pick the lock, while she was getting dressed or bathing, and touch her inappropriately.
During another incident, Kidman allegedly molested her while at a public swimming pool in Logan, the arrest paperwork detailed.
The woman told deputies, the incidents allegedly got worse after the family moved to Nibley. She claimed how Kidman drilled holes in the bathroom walls, so he could peek into the bathroom.
Kidman allegedly continued to molest the young girl on a regular basis for several years. He also reportedly showed her a pornographic video of a girl being sexually abused by an adult, saying his behavior was normal and she should get used to it, the warrant stated.
Deputies found a similar investigation was initiated in 2015 after several other girls claimed Kidman had molested them. They also reported to be shown child sexual abuse material, and being told by the suspect not to tell anyone about their “little game.”
At the time of the earlier investigation, police had found several holes drilled into the walls of a bathroom. When confronted, Kidman stated they had to re-wire some electrical wires during a remodel.
Court records show the first investigation remains open and charges were never filed.
After reviewing evidence from the second investigation, the Cache County Attorney’s Office filed a criminal case against Kidman. The charges included three counts of object rape, a first-degree felony.
Kidman remains in jail, being held temporarily without bail. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance before a judge Sept. 22, and could face up to life in prison, if convicted.
