James Skipper was a Mormon church member in Terre Haute, Indiana; arrested June 14, 2026 for alleged sexual abuse of a child; due in court June 18, 2026; previously convicted in 1992 in Missouri of sexual assault and sentenced to 6 years in prison; reportedly joined Mormon church in about 2024; is a registered sex offender living in Terre Haute, Indiana.

James Andrew Skipper was a Mormon church member who allegedly perpetrated a sex crime in Terre Haute, Indiana.

According to someone familiar with Skipper, he joined the LDS church about 2 years ago.  They also reported seeing Skipper at an LDS church building shared by two wards, while youth (ages 11-17) from both wards were present in the building for activities.  The person who reported to FLOODLIT said they didn’t know that Skipper was a previously convicted sex offender at the time of his 2026 arrest.

Skipper was convicted in March 1992 of sexual assault and was sentenced to 6 years in prison in St. Louis, Missouri, according to the Vigo County Sex Offender listing.  Offender Radar, says Skipper registered as a sex offender as of September 2010 in Indiana.  Skipper is currently living in Terre Haute, Indiana and is a registered sex offender.

Skipper was arrested June 14, 2026.

Skipper faces charges of :

-sexual battery

-sexual misconduct with a minor

Skipper is due in court June 18, 2026 at 10am.

According to section 38.2.8.6 of the LDS church general handbook, First Presidency approval is required in order to baptize a convicted sex offender. FLOODLIT is seeking more information about the circumstances of Skipper’s LDS baptism in about 2024.

    TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Terre Haute police arrested a 60-year-old man Sunday after a reported sexual battery involving a child in the northern part of the city.

    Detectives joined patrol officers and began interviewing people and collecting evidence, police said.

    Investigators identified James Skipper as a suspect and gathered information about his car.

    Officers used license plate reader technology to track down Skipper’s car and its last known location. Police found Skipper near a playground in Deming Park and took him into custody.

    Detectives interviewed Skipper at police headquarters. Skipper faces charges of sexual battery and sexual misconduct with a minor. He’s being held at the Vigo County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Vigo County Division 3 Court.
