David Babbel (born 1963) was a Mormon Young Men’s leader in South Jordan, Utah. A person who reported the case to FLOODLIT states that in 2009 he attempted to groom them by desensitising them to touch, and tried to lie on top of them in his home as soon as his wife and daughter had left the room; they shouted no repeatedly until his wife and daughter came in, and then ran home.

Their parents confronted him and his wife, who said she would lie in court and then came to the family’s home to apologise the following day.

The reporting person states they are not the only girl he abused, and that his own daughter said he asked her inappropriate sexual questions and that she felt unsafe in their home. Church leaders knew and did nothing. He moved away a few years later.
