Former Mormon stake president and deputy district attorney, David McConkie, was sentenced today in Colorado to five years probation after a plea deal to avoid jail time for sexual abuse of a child.
McConkie admitted child sexual abuse to an LDS bishop in 2008, but the bishop didn’t report to police.
An abuse survivor told McConkie at the sentencing, “I have waited many years … You took advantage of me and I was too young to understand it.”
Our hearts go out to McConkie’s victims.
While he avoids jail time and looks ahead to five years of probation, they’ll carry around a lifetime of trauma. We hope they find peace and healing.
Makes me mad he is not having a long jail sentence, so wrong. Thank you for sharing these stories, hope for healing for the victims and that the church will do better moving forward.
