Bruce McAskill was a Mormon church ward clerk in Jackson, Michigan; before becoming ward clerk, was convicted of rape; after becoming ward clerk, in 1994, was found guilty by a judge of kissing and fondling an 8-year-old boy whom he was babysitting; McAskill had met the boy's mother at church; a police officer said McAskill told him 'he didn't see any problem' with an adult sleeping naked with a child.

LDS church member Bruce A. McAskill, a bishop’s clerk in Jackson, Michigan “with a past rape conviction, faces a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison after a judge found him guilty of kissing and fondling a boy, 8, whom he was babysitting. The boy’s mother attended McAskill’s church.     McASKILL, Bruce A. of Saginaw, Michigan passed away Friday, August 12, 2011 at St Mary's Medical Center after a brief illness, at the age of 83 years. He was born February 15, 1928 in Hancock, Michigan. He served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He had been employed by Saginaw Steering Gear and retired in 1986 after 30 years of service. He wrote poetry as a hobby.
