“[H]e felt like he wanted to go on a mission. His bishop asked him where he would like to serve, and he indicated Hawaii which is where he was called. He got engaged to Mom prior to him starting his mission in May of 1946. They corresponded faithfully for the two years of his mission.
Mom and Dad were married June 5, 1948 in the Hawaiian Temple.

Dad’s life was spent in the service of others, whether it was serving in various church callings, stopping to help someone stranded on the side of the highway, or sharing his time and means to help others build up their food storage.”

Alvin Sylvanus Chamberlain, Jr. was born August 7, 1921 in Dubois, Idaho [...]. After the stock market crash in 1930, the family moved to Huntington Beach, California, and then later to Los Angeles.
He worked at Lockheed as a sheet metal worker from 1940 until September 4, 1942 when he enlisted in the Naval Air Corps. His first month at sea was spent traveling from Louisiana, to Cuba, going thru the Panama canal and on to Pearl Habor in Hawaii. He was then assigned to the USS Clay as an aerial gunner and ended up at Guadalcanal doing welding repairs on aircraft skins. On his first leave home to the Wilshire Ward in Los Angeles he met [...] for the first time.
When he returned to duty he was stationed several different places in the Philippines. He was discharged on Oct 29, 1945. Again, he went home to the Wiltshire Ward and met mom again. They soon started courting and talked about marriage. However, he felt like he wanted to go on a mission. His bishop asked him where he would like to serve, and he indicated Hawaii which is where he was called. He got engaged to Mom prior to him starting his mission in May of 1946. They corresponded faithfully for the two years of his mission.
Mom and Dad were married June 5, 1948 in the Hawaiian Temple. [...] He started work at Hill Field Air Force Base in August 1954 as an aircraft sheet metalsmith. He also worked in the Methods Time Measurement department, as a shop layout worker, and as an equipment specialist. He retired July 1, 1975 from Hill Field.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel. 347 S. 200 W. Farmington, Utah where friends may visit family from 9:30 – 10:45 am prior to services. Interment Farmington City Cemetery.
