James Mortensen (1995 – ) was a Mormon church member in Nephi, Utah; convicted of SEX ABUSE OF A CHILD in 2024; as of May 2026, is a registered sex offender living in Logan, Utah.

James Garrett Mortensen was a Mormon church member in Nephi, Utah.  Mortensen was convicted of sex abuse of a child in 2024.

According to the P.C. Affidavit, Mortensen allegedly sexually assaulted a minor girl. The alleged victim told investigators that Mortensen “would hold her tight with one arm” while sexually abusing her.

According to someone familiar with Mortensen’s case, Mortensen allegedly perpetrated a sex crime on a second victim who was 5 years old, sometime between 2008 and 2026 in Logan, Nephi and St. George, Utah. FLOODLIT is seeking police reports that the source said were filed in that case.

The source also alleged that Mortensen had a sexual relationship with a third victim, a 15-year-old, while on his LDS mission in Tampa, Florida.

    LOGAN — A 28-year-old Richmond man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a girl two years ago. James Garrett Mortensen was booked Wednesday afternoon into the Cache County Jail, on an arrest warrant from a Juab County judge.

    According to the warrant, a girl contacted Nephi City Police officers, claiming Mortensen, a family relative, had sexually assaulted her. The crime occurred in September 2020, while the alleged victim and Mortensen were staying at a family member’s home in Nephi.

    Nephi Police officers contacted a Cache County Sheriff’s deputy, who interviewed Mortensen as part of the investigation. During questioning, he reportedly admitted touching the girl. He told deputies, “he was not proud of it and had tried to suppress his memories of what had happened,” the affidavit stated.

    According to court records, Juab County prosecutors filed a criminal case against Mortensen in 4th District Court, in March 2021. They charged him with one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

    In April 2021, Judge Anthony Howell issued a warrant after Mortensen failed to appear in court to be arraigned in the case.

    According to jail records, Mortensen is being held on $25,000 bail. He will likely be arraigned during the next week and could face up to life in prison, if convicted.
