1. Okotoks man charged after seizure of more than 500K child sexual exploitation files
An Okotoks man has been arrested following the seizure of more than half a million child sexual exploitation photos and videos.
The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams’ (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit said a collection totalling more than 500,000 child sexual exploitation photos and videos, spanning several hard drives and computers, was seized from an Okotoks home on May 26.
ICE said it is one of the largest collections the unit has ever encountered. Over the past year, ICE identified 622,150 photos and videos containing child sexual exploitation material provincewide through all of its investigations.
The collection allegedly belonged to 35-year-old Corey Airhart of Okotoks, who has been charged with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.
“Behind every one of the photos and videos is a real child somewhere in this world that is being exploited for a sexual purpose,” said Staff Sgt. Gordon MacDonald of ICE. “A collection of this size is deeply disturbing, as it would have also likely been used to trade and fuel demand.”
The investigation began in January when the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre shared information about a suspect allegedly uploading child sexual exploitation material. Okotoks RCMP assisted with the investigation.
Airhart was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Okotoks court on Aug. 8, 2026.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources dedicated to tackling serious and organized crime.

Two men charged following seizure of 60 kilograms of drugs at airportWe have charged two men with drug distribution and exporting offences after 60 kilograms of cannabis resin was discovered in luggage at the Calgary International Airport last week.
On Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at about 8 a.m., Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) called for assistance after opening four checked bags that had been flagged during routine x-ray screening. Inside the bags, screening officers discovered vacuum-sealed packages wrapped in blankets, which raised further concerns.
Subsequent testing by law enforcement confirmed the presence of drugs. The contents of the suitcases, believed to be hashish, weighed a total of 60 kilograms with an estimated street value of $1.2 million.
Working with airport staff, we identified the luggage destination and reviewed CCTV footage to locate the suspects. Both men were arrested without incident when they boarded a Vancouver-bound aircraft.
We believe the suspects planned to travel to Sri Lanka using connecting flights.
Kody Carl KLIMOVE, 27, and Corey Daniel AIRHART, 34, were each charged with one count of possession for the purpose to distribute and one count of possession with intent to export. They are both scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026.
We want to thank our partners at the Calgary International Airport and CATSA for their vigilance and assistance with this case.

5. Over half a million child sexual exploitation files found at Okotoks home
More than 500,000 child sexual exploitation files were discovered inside a Southern Alberta home, a collection investigators say is among the largest ever encountered.
ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit says the files were found on multiple hard drives and computers seized on May 26, during a search of a residence in Okotoks.
An RCMP investigation began in January 2026 after officers flagged uploads of child exploitation content, eventually leading to the suspect.
“Behind every one of the photos and videos is a real child somewhere in this world that is being exploited for a sexual purpose,” said ICE Staff Sgt, Gordon MacDonald in a statement. “A collection of this size is deeply disturbing, as it would have also likely been used to trade and fuel demand.”
To provide context on how big the seizure is, ICE says they have identified just over 620,000 child sexual exploitation files from all its investigation in the past year.
Corey Airhart, 35, is charged with possessing and accessing child sexual abuse materials. Airhart has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 8.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact local officers or Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑TIPS.

6. Alberta man charged after 500,000 child abuse images, videos found
An Alberta man is facing charges after police say an extensive collection of child sexual abuse materials was discovered at his home in Okotoks.
According to the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), it’s the largest collection the Internet Child Exploitation unit (ICE) has ever encountered.
ALERT says more than 500,000 child sexual exploitation photos and videos were found on hard drives and computers seized on May 26, following the man’s arrest.
“The devices that were seized are being forensically examined, and we’re hoping to learn the origins of these particular types of media,” said Staff Sgt. Gordon MacDonald with ICE.
“Behind every one of the photos and videos is a real child somewhere in this world that is being exploited for a sexual purpose,” he added.
“A collection of this size is deeply disturbing, as it would have also likely been used to trade and fuel demand.”
To put the number into context, the total amount of child sexual exploitation photos and videos uncovered by ALERT across the entire province in the past year is only slightly more than what was seized from the single home — 622,150.
“This is truly a concerning volume of material recovered,” MacDonald said. “Going through this type of material is unpleasant – one of the worst jobs an officer can be asked to perform.”
Corey Airhart, 35, is charged with possessing and accessing child sexual abuse materials.
Police said there are tens of thousands of victims including very young children but they don’t know who they are or where in the world they might be.
“It’s difficult. A file like this deserves to be examined and analyzed to try and identify who these victims are, whether these victims are local or children from our province,” said MacDonald.
Airhart has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 8.
He is also set to appear in Calgary court for earlier charges related to a big drug bust at Calgary Airport.
Karen Orser, CEO and spokesperson for Calgary child advocacy centre Luna, says child exploitation causes significant harm to victims, families and communities.
“Child sexual abuse material is not simply images or videos; it is documented evidence of the sexual abuse and exploitation of children,” she said in a statement. “Every instance of possession, sharing or distribution perpetuates harm and can contribute to ongoing trauma for victims and survivors.”
“The safety and well-being of children is a shared responsibility, and we encourage anyone with concerns about the exploitation or abuse of a child to report it to police.”
“This is an egregious act that we need to take seriously. We are far behind other countries when it comes to protecting our kids in the digital world,” said Sara Austin, founder and CEO of Children First Canada, who said families should also speak with their kids about the potential dangers on digital platforms including social media and gaming sites.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact their local police service.
Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
