  BENTONVILLE — A Rogers man was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison after admitting to sexually assaulting a girl.

  John Joseph Hackett, 47, pleaded guilty to sexual assault in the second degree, a Class B felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years. His plea was under an agreement his attorney reached with a deputy prosecutor.

  Hackett was arrested May 20.

  Hackett told Benton County Investigator Wes Bryant he inappropriately touched a girl when she was 4 and 5 years old, according to court documents. Hackett told Bryant “he was trying to change his life and be admitted back into the Mormon Church,” according to the probable cause affidavit.

  The girl, now 11, was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Little Flock. She said Hackett forced her to touch him in inappropriate places, according to court documents.

  Circuit Judge Robin Green accepted the plea agreement and Hackett’s guilty plea.

  Hackett was sentenced to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. He must abide by a suspended sentence agreement for 10 years after his release.

  Hackett must enroll in the prison’s sex offender program or participate in a comparable program after his release.

  He will be required to register as a sex offender.

  Hackett was ordered not to have any contact with the victim. He also cannot have any unsupervised contact with any minors.

  BENTONVILLE — A Bentonville man is in the Benton County Jail after an investigator says he confessed his sins to authorities in an attempt to be readmitted to church, according to a probable cause affidavit.

  John Joseph Hackett, 46, of 76 Helfner Place was arrested Monday in connection with second-degree sexual assault, according to the affadavit.

  Hackett told Benton County investigator Wes Bryant that he had inappropriately touched a girl when she was 4 and 5 years old.

  The girl is now 11, according to police.

  Hackett told Bryant “he was trying to change his life and be admitted back into the Mormon Church.”

  Admitting these things was part of the process, according to the police report.

  Hackett also told Bryant he had inappropriately touched other girls, too, police said.

  The 11-year-old girl was interviewed by the Children’s Advocacy Center in Little Flock, authorities said.

  During the interview, the girl said she remembered lying on top of Hackett while he was nude.

  The girl told interviewers Hacket also forced her to touch him in inappropriate places, according to the affidavit.

  Hackett also said he touched the girl through her clothing and while the two were in a swimming pool together, investigators said.

  Hackett’s ex-wife confirmed the timeline of when the couple lived in a house with a pool.

  She also told investigators she frequently went on business trips and left the girls alone with Hackett, the affidavit said.

  Hackett’s ex-wife also told investigators she remembered Hackett bringing pornography home early in their marriage.

  Hackett was being held Monday in the Benton County Jail with no bond set.
