According to a sibling who reported the case to FLOODLIT, he began sexually abusing them in the early 1990s, when he was 11 and the reporting person was 7, and the abuse continued for a couple of years.

When the reporting person disclosed to their mother, she took the matter to the church rather than to authorities. The two children were seated side by side in the bishop’s office, alone with him, and told that both of them had sinned and needed to repent or face consequences; the reporting person came away believing they would be damned and lose their family for eternity if they did not complete every step of a repentance process. The report states that the handling allowed the abuse to continue and worsen. Two years after he moved away the matter did reach court, where the reporting person says their testimony was manipulated.
