COPPERAS COVE - A former Copperas Cove High School assistant boys basketball coach turned himself in to police Monday after the city's police department issued a warrant for his arrest Sunday on a sexual assault charge involving a student.
Matthew Thomas Doyle, 37, of Copperas Cove was arraigned by Coryell County Justice of the Peace John Guinn on Monday on a charge of sexual assault. Guinn set Doyle's bond at $25,000, and he was released Tuesday after posting bail.
According to a news release from CCPD, a 16-year-old girl detailed her involvement with a Copperas Cove Independent School District employee that occurred at the employee's house on Feb. 26.
Doyle was hired as a Copperas Cove High School assistant basketball coach and math teacher in 2010, but resigned March 23 when the district started to conduct an investigation into the possible incident and placed him on administrative leave, Rudesheim said.
