He confessed to his mission president while serving a mission and was sent home.

Nobody reported the abuse to authorities until he was required to attend therapy and the therapist made a mandatory report; the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the police were then notified. According to the report, his parents and he refused to speak to police, and the stake president also refused to speak to them. The reporting sibling, having been told by their parents not to tell anyone and that their brother could go to prison, did not disclose when interviewed by DCFS, and the case was dropped. Church leaders excommunicated him for a short period and took no other action. He and his parents now deny the abuse. After it came out he was barred from callings involving children.
