According to her account, his bishop defended him throughout and called her a liar; he protected him, allowed him to continue exercising his callings and his priesthood, and signed him a temple recommend despite what he had done.

Church leaders knew and did everything they could to protect him, giving her no protection, defence or support as the victim, and asked her not to go to the police so as not to harm the church. He was excommunicated four years later, only once the courts took the matter up. She states that his continued access, resulting from the leaders’ inaction, meant there were further victims.
