In 2020, aged 68, he was charged with two first-degree felonies – sodomy on a child and aggravated sexual abuse of a child – relating to the abuse of a 14-year-old female relative over approximately 18 months to two years, dating from 2018.

During a monitored phone call in January he said he had done things to the girl that would probably put him in prison for the rest of his life.

Bail was set at $50,000 and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim, her family or any child under 18; prosecutors indicated further charges were being prepared. He died by suicide during the proceedings in June 2020.
