Summary

This case arose in 1997 in Kansas City, Missouri. David Neil Brown was charged with 32 counts of statutory sodomy. Brown molested 5 boy scouts. “Accused pedophile David Neil Brown was an active Mormon and a Boy Scout Leader in the LDS Church. The Jackson County Missouri prosecutor’s office brought 32 charges of statutory sodomy against Brown. Court documents allege that Brown had molested five boys between 1997 and 2001 . In 2003 Brown pled guilty to two counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree and three counts of statutory sodomy in the second degree. He is serving a state sentence of 15 years at this time but on Dec. 28, 2005 Brown plead guilty to downloading child images on his computer on March 2002 and could be imprisoned for 30 more years federally without parole.” “Court documents allege that Brown had sexual contact repeatedly with five boys between 1997 and 2001.” from Tapatalk in 2002: “David Brown was a trusted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Blue Springs. His family was nominated for Family of the Year during Family Week this year, and his wife [Jane Doe] was on the Family Week Committee. According to the essay written to nominate the Browns in 2002, Brown tried to instill Scout qualities and patriotism in the children he led as Boy Scout leader. “We are grateful that the authorities are involved, and, like others, depend on the legal system to handle such charges promptly and appropriately,” Aggen said. “Children are one of the greatest gifts and blessings of God. The church teaches that children should be lovingly nurtured and protected. We join with decent people everywhere in condemning child abuse.” An investigation of Brown came about after a 15-year-old victim reported in February that Brown touched his genitals about 25 times and attempted to have oral sex with him 13 times during a two-year period. The victim was 14 when the assaults began. Further investigations showed four other victims ranging from ages nine to 15, all saying Brown attempted to have sex with them. According to reports, Brown admitted to the molestation as well as taking photographs of a 15-year-old victim to put on a computer. After seizing the computer, police officials found pictures of children in bondage positions. Brown appeared in Division 30 of the Jackson County Court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday. His attorney Lyle Gregory asked for Brown’s bond to be reduced from $1 million. Assistant prosecuting attorney Melissa Rodriguez said prosecution believed Brown was a danger to the community.” Floodlit’s sources say that Brown was his ward’s choir director and would lead weekly choir practices on Sunday evenings at the ward chapel.
