According to the BSA Perversion Filed, LDS church member Thomas Opfar, “admitted child molester is now serving a 5 to 15 year sentence in the Utah State Prison.”
The files indicate that Opfar was “Excommunicated.”
Opfar went on an LDS mission to Hong Kong from 1958 to 1960.

1. Death: Thomas J. Opfar
Thomas J. Opfar, beloved father and grandfather, caring son, brother, and loyal friend, died August 27, 1998 at his home in Midvale, ending a long battle with cancer. He died peacefully, surrounded by his sons and other loved ones.
Born September 25, 1937 in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, a son of [redacted]. Graduated from Snow College, served an LDS mission to Hong Kong from 1958-1960. He stayed in contact with these missionaries, counting many of them as his dearest friends. On August 4, 1964 he married [redacted] in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Though he and [redacted] were later divorced, she was a faithful friend, giving him tender, vigilant care during his illness. A man of multiple talents and interests, meticulous to detail, he organized wonderful reunions and parties; collected stamps, enjoyed fine music; and was a tenacious, skilled genealogist.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice for their excellent care of Tom during the past weeks.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, August 31, 1998 in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 So. Highland Drive where friends may call on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. and on Monday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to service. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
