Case report
John Doe (pseudonym) was a former LDS bishop living in Texas who was sued in 2024 for alleged child sexual abuse.
He served as an LDS bishop multiple times. Some of the alleged abuse took place while Doe was a bishop.
Between mid-April and May 2, 2023, Doe confessed to his Mormon bishop and stake president in Texas that he had perpetrated child sexual abuse dozens of times, a person familiar with the case told FLOODLIT. According to LDS policy and Texas law, they reported him to local police.
The alleged abuse took place in Alaska and Alabama.
As of July 2023, one or more law enforcement investigations were ongoing into Doe’s alleged criminal past.
FLOODLIT has obtained a copy of the civil complaint in this case from the local district court in Texas where it was filed in 2024, thanks to your donations.
