Source type: News articleLOGAN — A 46-year-old Lewiston man has been arrested for downloading child pornography over the internet for years, according to law enforcement. Kent Daniel Prestwich was booked Tuesday into the Cache County Jail after state agents served a warrant to his home.
According to arrest documents, Prestwich allegedly told investigators he had been viewing child sexual abuse material for approximately 15 years because it aroused him. He also admitted to using specific search terms the he knew would obtain files of children being sexually abused.
Investigators first began detecting a computer distributing child pornography files on two different peer-to-peer networks in July 2023. The images and videos showed young female children between the ages of 8 and 12-years-old, being raped by adult males.
The computer’s IP address was later tracked to Prestwich’s home, where agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday afternoon. Prestwich admitted to using the desktop computer to download child sexual abuse material, according to a Probable Cause statement.
Prestwich was booked into jail on ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony. He is currently being held, pending arraignment on formal charges.
Agents with the Utah Attorney General’s Office requested Prestwich be held in jail without bail, noting he is a serious danger to himself. They also described how the Lewiston home was “covered in animal feces and garbage, making it difficult to walk through,” the arrest affidavit detailed.
According to court records, Prestwich has no criminal history aside from minor traffic citations. He could face up to 15 years in prison, if convicted.
