Raymond Casillas was a Mormon church bishop in San Antonio, Texas when he was arrested for molesting a 13-year-old girl in his classroom.
Casillas joined the LDS church in about 1990, when he was around 20 years old.
FLOODLIT is seeking information regarding whether Casillas went on a full-time mission for the Mormon church in the early 1990s.
Casillas married in about 1994.
Casillas was an English /language arts and math teacher and special education aide at Matthey Middle School, Southside Independent School District (ISD), from October 2007 to April 2013.
In December 2011, Casillas invited a 13-year-old eighth-grade student to his classroom for lunch, locked the door and groped her, then forced her to perform sex acts on him, the girl told a forensic interviewer at Child Safe, according to court documents.
In April 2013, Casillas resigned for “personal reasons,” according to a school district lawyer.
Casillas was arrested in January 2014 by San Antonio police and charged with first degree felony aggravated sexual assault of a child.
As part of a plea agreement, Casillas pleaded no contest to indecent contact with a child and agreed to a fine of $1,500 and a prison term of up to 10 years.
In February 2016, Casillas was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Some ward members asked for donations from ward members to donate to his prison commissary fund, according to a source who requested to remain anonymous.
In October 2016, Casillas sent a handwritten letter to the judges in the criminal court of appeals pertaining to his case. In it, he said he was a bishop at the time of his arrest in 2014.
Casillas was released from prison on parole in April 2021 and registered as a sex offender in Texas at that time. FLOODLIT has obtained copies of court records in this case (2014CR8767).
Casillas’s parole ended on Feb. 24, 2024.
As of March 2024, Casillas lives in San Antonio, Texas as a registered sex offender.
Casillas may have served as an elders quorum president in his local LDS ward since his release from prison, according to a source who requested anonymity. We are attempting to confirm this information; please contact us if you know anything about this case.

State District Judge Jefferson Moore made it eight years, his lawyer, Pat Hancock, said.

He made it a practice to invite other students to his room during lunch period, where they would eat and sometimes watch movies.
A school district lawyer has said Casillas worked at Southside ISD from Oct. 15, 2007, to April 16, 2013, had been an English/language arts and math teacher and special education aide at Matthey, and resigned for “personal reasons.”
