David Cannata was a Mormon bishop in Tucson, Arizona who abused a female child in 2005. The victim was approximately 5 or 6 years old at the time of the crime.
Cannata was a bishop at the time of the crime. He was a stake high council member sometime in the 2010s.
According to a person familiar with the case, Cannata was confronted by the victim when she was older, and Cannata confessed that he had abused the child multiple times. He allegedly confessed to molesting her on multiple occasions and masturbating while doing it.
Cannata turned himself into the police and was excommunicated from the Mormon church for his crime, the source said.
In 2019, Cannata was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.
As of 2025, Cannata is serving time in Arizona Department of Corrections until Feb. 27, 2026.
