Kent Langston was a Mormon church member in Saratoga Springs, Utah. On December 9, 2025 Langston was charged in Utah with several first degree felonies related to child sexual abuse.
According to journal entries of Langston’s reportedly obtained by investigators, Langston wrote that he “worked with children in church” and would sometimes touch their lower backs and bottoms.
According to a relative’s obituary, Langston taught LDS primary classes (children from ages 3 to 11) for “many years.”
According to a police probable cause affidavit obtained by Floodlit, thanks to your donations, investigators found hundreds of journal entries on Langston’s cellphone having to do with alleged sexual abuse of children.
The earliest alleged abuse in this case took place in the 1970s while Langston attended Brigham Young University, according to one of Langston’s journal entries. On that occasion he wrote, he had a child touch his genitals.
The following is an excerpt from the PC Affidavit:
“Officers obtained a search warrant for the Defendant’s devices. Upon reviewing
the Defendant’s phone, officers located hundreds of journal entries on his cell
phone. […] The Defendant continues to question whether he should take
accountability for his crimes and is concerned for how long he will be held in
prison as a consequence. The Defendant admits that he confessed to his wife prior
to her death and that she had told him that he did not need to report it and he was
already forgiven for his sins. The Defendant notes that he was given an ultimatum
by [victims’] family members that if he did not report the incidents to the police that the
family members would no longer continue in their relationships. The Defendant
continued to question whether he should take accountability for the abuse.”
Floodlit will continue to monitor Langston’s criminal case and provide updates on this page.

According to someone familiar with Langston’s history in the Mormon church, he was the ward executive secretary in two wards from October 2011 to October 2013. About one year into his calling, the ward boundaries were realigned and Langston continued in the same calling in a different ward. This was in the Saratoga Springs Utah Israel Canyon Stake.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah (ABC4) — A Saratoga Springs man has been charged with allegedly sexually abusing several of [children]. Police found journal entries detailing the crimes and whether he would be held accountable.
A 74-year-old man, whom ABC4 is not identifying to protect the victims, is charged with five counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
According to court documents, in January 2025, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) received a report of child sexual abuse about the 74-year-old. The report stated that he had sexually touched four [redacted] children when they were between four and six years old.

The two had allegedly been sleeping in the same bed when that occurred.
The Saratoga Springs Police Department began investigating the reports and learned that he had admitted to his son and daughter-in-law that he had sexually abused [children]. One of the children told her parents, “Something weird had happened with [Langston]. I don’t like it when he touches my bum.”
Multiple [adults]confronted the 74-year-old [...] about the abuse, documents say. Several messages and phone calls were exchanged with family members about what happened. In one message, after disclosing the abuse, the 74-year-old allegedly wrote the following:
“I am sorry for what I’ve done. I’m so, so sorry for the pain inflicted on your beautiful, precious
families. Why did it happen? … In my weakness, he told me there is no harm in a little of this and a little of that. Once the dam I built was breached, the breach grew little by little … I’m now facing 15 years to life in prison.”According to court documents, the 74-year-old questioned whether he deserved to spend the rest of his life in prison, saying that there was still “more ‘good’ that he can do.” He allegedly admitted to family members that he was “attracted to all ages of females and has a long history of sexual abuse.”
The police obtained a search warrant for the 74-year-old’s phone and recovered “hundreds of journal entries” where he detailed the sexual abuse he had committed and other thoughts.

He also wrote that he “worked with children in church” and would sometimes touch their lower backs and bottoms. Documents say the 74-year-old also detailed an incident from his college years, where he had a child touch his genitals while attending Brigham Young University.
In recent entries, the 74-year-old allegedly noted that “DCFS is pressuring the parents of the victims to have their children testify.” He questioned whether he should allow [the disabled alleged victim] to speak with DCFS about her own abuse.
Additionally, he had downloaded sentencing guidelines for sexual offenses and questioned whether he would be arrested for his crimes. The 74-year-old allegedly wrote notes about how to “get the best possible plea deal” if he reported the incident as his family told him to.
“The [74-year-old] notes that he was given an ultimatum by his family members that if he did not report the incidents to the police that the family members would no longer continue in their relationships. The [74-year-old] continued to question whether he should take accountability for the abuse,” documents say.
The 74-year-old is not currently in custody, and a no-bail warrant has been issued for his arrest.
