Floodlit’s research showed that a Facebook profile appearing to belong to Sorenson included a 2022 post displaying a photo of Sorenson in front of a Mormon temple.
Floodlit’s research suggests that the Sorenson family to which Wendi Weight Sorenson married, owns or operates multiple “trouble teen” facilities in Utah and has been in trouble before for various kinds of alleged abuses of children. A survivors group exists on Facebook for survivors at alleged abuse at Sorenson’s ranch.
The Sorenson Ranch in Koosharem was one of two Sevier County “Troubled Teen” facilities where a Psychologist alleged Laurence C. Reiser, allegedly sexually abused multiple male minors, in the late 1980s or 1990, according to Deseret News.

2. Former instructor at Utah boys ranch faces multiple charges of sex with minor
KOOSHAREM, Sevier County — A former employee of a southern Utah residential treatment ranch for boys has been charged in California with multiple counts of having sex with a minor.
Wendi Sorenson, 39, of Koosharem, was charged Dec. 2 in Tulare County Superior Court District with three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 18, four counts of oral copulation of a person under 16, contact with a minor for sexual offense, meeting with a minor for lewd purposes and arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes.
According to charging documents, the alleged victim was under 16 years old and the conduct happened sometime between Nov. 1 and Dec. 1. She was arrested on Dec. 3, according to court papers filed in Utah's 6th District Court.
On Tuesday, Sorenson signed court papers in Sevier County waiving extradition to California.
Sorenson worked at the High Top Boys Ranch in Koosharem, reportedly as an instructor. A spokesman for the ranch told the Deseret News Tuesday that she had been fired several months ago. The spokesman said the alleged victim is a boy who had previously been at the ranch.
According to its website, the High Top Boys Ranch "is the only program in the country to specialize in residential treatment for boys ages 8 to 14. Located on 200 acres in the south-central Utah mountain country of Koosharem, this working cattle and horse ranch has been in the Sorenson family for three generations."

3. Utah woman faces prison for molesting Visalia teen
Wendi Sorenson sat in the courtroom and wept as a Tulare County judge read the 29 counts of molestation that the woman faced.
After each count was read by Judge Kathyrn Montejano, the 37-year-old Utah woman quietly pleaded, "no contest".
She wiped tears from her eyes.
Prosecutors believe the abuse began in June 2015, while the boy was enrolled at High Top Boys Ranch in Koosharem, Utah.
The school for troubled youth was owned and operated by Sorenson and her husband. The school has since closed.
Sorenson's husband was the person who reported the abuse to child protective services in Utah. According to prosecutors, he told authorities he noticed the two were, "very close."
In October 2015, following accusations, the teenager was removed from the school.
His grandmother, Yolanda Rodriguez, had been fighting for custody of her grandson for months. She was finally granted custody after the boy left the school.
"[Sorenson] wants people to believe she's a church-going lady, but she's a monster," Rodriguez said. "She groomed him from day one."
The abuse continued when the boy and his grandmother moved to California, prosecutors said.
A week before Thanksgiving 2015, Sorenson flew from Utah to California. Visalia Sgt. Daniel Ford was alerted by the sheriff's department in Utah. They warned the then detective that the woman had left the state, likely to visit the boy.
Detectives began an investigation and contacted the boy's family.
The teenager told police the sex acts took place at Visalia's Fairfield Inn and the Visalia Marriott between Nov. 19 and 28. According to prosecutor Chelsea Wayt, the boy said he and Sorenson had sex every night.
Sorenson was charged with molestation, oral copulation and arranging a sexual encounter with a minor.
Ford uncovered more than 12,000 sexually explicit text messages between Sorenson and the boy. The text messages were also used to place Sorenson at the hotels.
After Sorenson pleaded no contest, Wayt asked the judge to place the woman in jail while she waits to be sentenced. Montejano denied the request and the defendant was allowed to return to Utah.
Tulare County probation officers have recommended Sorenson serve more than 12 years in prison.
The family said they want justice to be served. However, Rodriguez said they were told that Sorenson may only serve three years.
"We were hoping that she'd at least get six years," Rodriguez said. "I thought we were going to get justice."
The District Attorney's Office has requested the court enforce the maximum sentence of 13 years and eight months in prison, said Stuart Anderson, spokesman for the DA.
The boy's father believes that Sorenson's sentence is based on her gender.
"This is bias to the fullest," he said. "It just tells people you can commit sexual molestation and get away with it."
The family will return to court for Sorenson's sentencing on Sept. 7 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 10.
Montejano said Sorenson will likely be placed into custody at that time.

4. 12,000 sexual messages help put Utah woman behind bars
A Utah woman will call California her home for the next three years. The only time the 37-year-old woman will get to soak in the Golden State sun will be during yard time in prison, though.
On Thursday, Tulare County Judge Kathryn Montejano sentenced Wendi Sorenson to prison for child molestation.
In July, Sorenson pleaded no contest to nine counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, 13 counts of lewd acts on a child under 14, four counts of oral copulation of a person under 16, one count of contacting a minor for a sexual offense, one count of arranging a meeting with a minor for a sexual offense and one count of meeting a minor for a sexual offense.
"We were hoping that she'd at least get six years," said Yolanda Rodriguez, the boy's grandmother. "I thought we were going to get justice."
At the time of her plea, the family of the boy hoped Sorenson would get the maximum punishment. They were told at the plea hearing she would only receive three.
"Prosecutors made no plea bargains in this case and argued for the maximum sentence of 13 years and eight months," said Stuart Anderson, spokesman for Tulare County District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors believe Sorenson repeatedly abused a 14-year-old boy in June 2015.
He was enrolled at High Top Boys Ranch in Koosharem, Utah. The school for troubled youth was owned and operated by Sorenson and her husband.
The school has since closed.
Sorenson's husband was the person who reported the abuse to child protective services in Utah. According to prosecutors, he told deputies the two were, "very close."
In October 2015, following accusations, the teenager was removed from the school.
A week before Thanksgiving 2015, Sorenson flew from Utah to California. Visalia detectives were alerted by the sheriff's department in Utah. They warned detectives that the woman had left the state, likely to visit the boy.
Detectives began an investigation and contacted the boy's family. The teenager told police the sex acts took place at Visalia's Fairfield Inn and the Visalia Marriott.
According to prosecutor Chelsea Wayt, the boy said he and Sorenson had sex every night for 10 days.
More than 12,000 sexually explicit text messages between Sorenson and the boy were recovered by detectives. The text messages were also used to place Sorenson at the hotels.
Sorenson will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life. She will also be ordered to pay restitution to the victim.

KOOSHAREM, Sevier County — A former instructor at a Utah ranch for troubled teens plead “no contest” to multiple counts of molestation at a court in California, according to the Visalia Times-Delta.
Utah resident Wendi Sorenson, 37, was charged with multiple counts of having sex with a minor in December 2015. She recently plead “no contest” to at least three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 18, four counts of oral copulation of a person under 16, contact with a minor for sexual offense, meeting with a minor for lewd purposes and arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes.
Prosecutors believe the abuse began in June 2015 while Sorenson was an instructor at High Top Boys Ranch in Koosharem. The ranch for troubled youth was owned and operated by Sorenson and her husband, the Visalia Times reported. The school has since closed.
Sorenson’s husband reported the abuse to child protective services when he noticed Sorenson was “very close” to one of the boys at the school, the Visalia Times reported. The teenager was then removed from the school and went back to California.
A week before Thanksgiving 2015, Sorenson flew from Utah to California. Authorities in Utah alerted police in California and warned them that Sorenson had left the state, likely to visit the same boy.
When detectives contacted the boy, he told police that he and Sorenson had sex at two hotels in California for several days, the Visalia Times reported. Authorities also uncovered more than 12,000 sexually explicit text messages between Sorenson and the boy. The messages also placed Sorenson at the hotels.
After Sorenson plead no contest, the judge allowed her to return to Utah while she waits to be sentenced. The maximum sentence Sorenson may serve in prison is 13 years and eight months, according to the Visalia Times.

9. PSYCHOLOGIST ENTERS ACCORD ON SEX CHARGES
A former Richfield psychologist, whose license was suspended in November by state licensing authorities, has entered into a diversionary agreement with the 6th Circuit Court to settle charges of sexually abusing minors.
In the nine-point agreement, Laurence C. Reiser, now living in Salt Lake City, waived his right to a speedy trial and agreed not to violate laws of any political subdivision or order issued by the court. He also agrees to undergo treatment at the Intermountain Sexual Abuse Treatment Center or a similar program at his own expense. It was stipulated that Reiser would not engage in counseling of minors or allow any male minor to be in his company unless accompanied by another responsible adult. He acknowledged in the written agreement that he had taken inappropriate liberties with male minors and that he is in need of treatment to rectify his conduct.
Prosecution of Reiser will be stayed, and the information filed with the court will also be dismissed after three years of full compliance with the agreement.
Reiser has been charged by the Sevier County attorney's office with five counts of forcible sexual abuse. The charges involved male youths at the Sorenson Ranch in Koo-sharem and the Rowlett Group Home in Austin, both in Sevier County.
View CommentsFollowing filing of the sex abuse charges, the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing issued an emergency suspension of Reiser's license. The division's petition for suspension accused Reiser of sexually molesting eight juveniles and attempting to molest another male juvenile during therapy sessions at the Sorenson Ranch and Rowlett Group Home.
