1. Orem family practice doctor arrested in lewdness, sex abuse case
OREM — An Orem family practice doctor was booked into jail Monday for investigation of lewdness and forcible sex abuse involving a 60-year-old patient.
Dr. David R. Hillam, 44, was arrested following a two-week investigation. He came to the attention of investigators when a woman went to the police station and reported that her doctor, Hillam, had showed her some inappropriate videos at his office, said Orem Police Sgt. Craig Martinez.
The woman had been Hillam's patient for seven years, but she told police he only started showing her the videos in early 2012, a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court states. The videos were allegedly displayed on the doctor's phone and were "very inappropriate and sexual in nature," Martinez said.
All of the videos allegedly involved Hillam engaging in some type of sexual conduct and the woman reported seeing at least six videos. Hillam admitted showing the videos to the woman, the affidavit states. While talking to police, the woman also claimed the doctor had administered unnecessary gynecological exams over the course of three years. The affidavit states that the woman "is in poor health" and visits Hillam as many as four times a week. She reported that Hillam gave her a gynecological exam "even when she was in for some other type of medical complaint," the affidavit states.
She estimated this happened at least 10 times.
"I think the videos were kind of a breaking point," Martinez said. "It was a little disturbing and then when she started sitting down and talking about it … the stuff came out about the vaginal exams."
Hillam denied that the exams were at all sexual in nature. But he told an investigator with the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing "that there were times" he performed gynecological exams on the victim "and it was for sexual pleasure," the police affidavit states.
The division confirmed Tuesday it was working with Orem police on this case and is "currently seeking disciplinary action against David Richard Hillam's professional licenses."

2. Orem doctor arrested on suspicion of multiple sex charges
An Orem doctor was arrested Monday night after a patient complained he was showing her inappropriate cell phone videos and performing unnecessary vaginal exams.
Orem police said the 60-year-old woman came into the station Sept. 19 to report that David Richard Hillam, 44, was showing her inappropriate videos while she was at his office and that he had given her more than 10 vaginal exams in three years — some of those exams allegedly designed to help her sex life by strengthening her muscles.
The woman alleges that Hillam showed her several cell phone videos over the course of several months starting in 2012. The videos showed Hillam and his wife having sex, Hillam's penis, and a video of him masturbating, according to the probable cause statement.
In August, Hillam allegedly visited the woman while she was a patient at a hospital and noticed that "she looked a little down," according to the PC statement. The woman alleges that Hillam then went into a closet, changed into a hospital gown, filmed himself masturbating and then returned and showed the video to the victim, the statement says.
Police said they investigated the woman's claims and arrested Hillam on suspicion of three counts of forcible sexual abuse, second-degree felonies; and four counts of lewdness, class B misdemeanors. He posted a $10,000 cash only bond Tuesday and was released, officials said.
Police allege Hillam admitted to them that he showed sexual videos to the woman, but denied the vaginal exams were sexual in nature, the statement shows. However, authorities allege he spoke with licensing investigators and admitted some of the vaginal exams were "for sexual pleasure."
Jennifer Bolton, spokeswomen for the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, said Hillam's physician and controlled substance licenses remain active. But in a prepared statement, she said the agency "has been working closely with the Orem Police Department on this case and is currently seeking disciplinary action against David Richard Hillam's professional licenses."
Orem Police Sgt. Craig Martinez said his department has not received complaints from other alleged victims, but asked anyone who believes they may be a victim or has more information to call police at 801-229-7070.
