1. Utah therapist accused of grooming, sexually assaulting patient
MAPLETON, Utah (ABC4) — A Utah County therapist is in custody, accused of grooming a patient for years before sexually assaulting her, according to court documents.
Kevin Michael White, 56, was booked into the Utah County Jail where he faces first degree felony charges of rape and object rape, second degree felony forcible sexual abuse and misdemeanor distribution of a controlled substance.
When speaking with the police, the victim described multiple events where White would allegedly inappropriately touch her and kiss her despite her refusing and setting boundaries with him. The encounters allegedly happened both at his office and in various hotels throughout Utah County.
In one encounter, the victim said she had felt upset and left the room in tears. When she returned, she had found White had self-harmed, causing her to feel at fault. According to court records, the victim said she felt she could never say no to White again.
The two would also allegedly engage in Ketamine therapy at the hotels, with White saying he “dreamed of them doing it together.” The victim told police he was not certified to administer the Ketamine, and when Ketamine was administered in the office, a nurse was always present.
White would allegedly send the victim pictures of self-harm and apologize for the encounters, saying he was devastated by what he had done.
Investigators spoke to White, who said he had a sexual relationship with his client and he knew it was wrong, but he believed it was consensual. White reportedly said he held the victim while she cried and one one point admitted to crossing a boundary. After that, when detailing one encounter where the victim said he crossed a line, White said she had given consent.
White has been ordered to be held without bail, pending a pretrial hearing.
