  Former Utah legislator and homeless advocate Jeff Fox is scheduled for trial in federal court later this month on child pornography and drug charges.

  In July 2010, DEA agents and Salt Lake City police took more than 100 pounds of marijuana from Fox's home.

  Police also seized a computer and external hard drives, on which investigators allegedly discovered child pornography.

  In March, a grand jury indicted Fox, 63, on one count each of possession of child pornography and possession of marijuana with intent to manufacture and distribute.

  Fox —who has pleaded not guilty — served a stint in the Utah Legislature, representing northern Cache County, from 1977 to 1982.

  He also was director for both Utahns Against Hunger and the Crossroads Urban Center and has been recognized for his work with low-income and homeless issues.

  Fox remains free while awaiting a jury trial set for Sept. 12 before U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups.

  Defense attorney Ronald Yengich, who is representing Fox in the case, was not available for comment.

  SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (KUTV) — A former Utah legislator and registered sex offender was arrested Monday after investigators allegedly found him to be in possession of child pornography.

  Jeffrey Vern Fox, 74, was arrested by members of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force after they were alerted that multiple files of apparent child pornography were uploaded to an electronic service provider (ESP) account located in Utah.

  After a search warrant was submitted to the ESP for the account in Utah, investigators determined the account belonged to Fox.

  According to an affidavit for Fox's arrest, a search warrant was obtained for his home where detectives found him to be in possession of "erotic stories involving children and multiple files of age-difficult youth."

  The arrest report further details that Fox was "actively" engaged in conversations in which he was sharing these files.

  "I also found that he is currently a registered sex offender who was convicted federally for possession of child pornography. In 2013, Fox was placed on federal probation for 15 years. In 2019, his probation was terminated early for completing the terms of his sentence," the affidavit states.

  Fox served as a representative in the Utah legislature from 1977 to 1982.

  Fox was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail where he's facing eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

  SALT LAKE CITY — A former Utah legislator who had previously plead guilty to child pornography charges was arrested this week during a similar investigation.

  Jeffrey Vern Fox, 74, was arrested Tuesday and faces eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after a search of his home found images and videos of children on his computer, along with documents detailing erotic stories involving children.

  In 2013, Fox, who represented Salt Lake City in the Utah legislature nearly four decades ago, pleaded guilty to one count of child pornography possession after DEA agents found he had hundreds of sexually explicit images involving minors and several pounds of marijuana.

  Despite the severity of the charges, Fox was only sentenced to 15 years of probation, which was terminated early in 2019.

  The new investigation began in July after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received reports that multiple files of child porn were uploaded to an account registered to Fox.
