He was convicted of two counts of child rape and multiple counts of child molestation in the second degree for offences in 2014, and was released from prison in August 2025 pending a further trial over the assault of another victim from the same year.

A person who reported the case to FLOODLIT states that they were 15 when he sexually penetrated them, after two years of abuse. According to that account, the bishop was notified and police were called, and the church’s outside legal counsel was contacted and instructed that the congregation not be told about a 19-year-old sleeping in tents with their sons. Neither the congregation nor the later victim knew what had happened; the family he had lived with told people he had joined the army and been stationed in Florida.
