Michael James Angus was a Mormon church member who lived in Star, Idaho. Angus who was convicted of POSSESSION OF SEXUALLY EXPLICIT IMAGES OF MINORS and sentenced to 120 months in 2012. His plea agreement included 66 CSAM images.
An 11-year-old girl and her parents reported to police of sexual abuse allegations against Angus, in 2011. During the investigation the parents expressed concern that an 8-year-old girl they knew of spent time alone often with Angus. Investigators learned that Angus had created and possessed CSAM material of the 8-year-old girl from around July 2009-Sept 2011. In addition, Angus was in possession of CSAM of hundreds of other minors he had downloaded from the internet.
“Police say that while investigating those charges, they found additional evidence of sexual contact involving one of the elementary-aged girls that happened before the Nov. 18 arrest” Idaho Press
Because of the severity of Angus’s crimes he was held on a $1,000,000 bond. The state charges were dismissed and sentenced in federal court because of his guilty plea.
According to someone familiar with the case Angus and his wife babysat one of the victims. Their arrangement did not allow the victim’s brother to stay with them, which is reportedly when the abuse occurred.

1. Star Man Gets 10 Years for Child Pornography Offense
BOISE—Michael James Angus, 68, of Star, Idaho, was sentenced today in United States District Court in Boise to 120 months in prison for possessing sexually explicit images of minors, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced. Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered Angus to be on supervised release for the remainder of his life and pay restitution to the victim. A hearing to determine the amount of restitution has not yet been set.
According to the plea agreement, deputies from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, who are members of the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, began an investigation after a 10-year-old female reported that Angus had engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with her while her family was visiting at Angus’ home on October 30, 2011. The parents of the 10-year-old also expressed concern for the welfare of another child, an 8-year-old, who often spent time alone with Angus at his home.
Investigators identified the 8-year-old and contacted her. The girl, whom Angus had cared for off and on for several years, disclosed inappropriate contact by Angus, and told investigators that he had also taken pictures of her dancing, posing nude, and when she was in the bathtub.
Deputies executed a search warrant at Angus’ home and discovered child pornography, including sexually explicit images of the 8-year-old girl. The images were produced on at least four separate dates between July 2009 and September 2011, mostly in or around the bathtub in the master bedroom in Angus’ home in Star. Investigators also discovered hundreds of images of other minors that Angus had downloaded from the Internet. Of these images, according to the plea agreement, 66 are child pornography. The others included naturist (or nudist) images of children as young as 2 years of age, many of which would be considered “child erotica” to a person with a sexual interest in children.
As a condition of the plea agreement, Angus was required to meet with investigators and make disclosures, subject to polygraph verification, concerning any other minors with whom he may have engaged in inappropriate contact. Angus admitted engaging in sexual contact or other sexual behavior with a total of seven young females, age 10 or younger, including the two girls originally identified as possible victims.
“Protecting and rescuing children from sexual exploitation is a critical law enforcement function,” said Olson. “Tragically, in this case, Mr. Angus victimized several young girls before one family contacted law enforcement. I commend the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for its aggressive and thorough efforts to uncover the breadth of Mr. Angus’ criminal conduct. I commend the cooperative efforts of the FBI, the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the prosecutors, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Peters and Jean Fisher from the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office, for their work in securing what may amount to a life sentence for Mr. Angus and a resolution that ensures his victims obtain justice without having to testify in open court.”
The case was investigated by the Ada County Sheriff’s Department, an affiliate of the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, assisted by the FBI’s Regional Computer Forensic Lab. The case was prosecuted with the close cooperation of the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which had originally brought related charges against Angus. State charges will be dismissed as a result of Angus’ guilty plea and sentence in federal court.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children and to identify and rescue victims. 4. Bond set at $1M for Star man accused of sexually abusing girls
BOISE -- Bond has been set at $1 million for a Star man arrested on sex abuse of a minor and lewd conduct charges.
Sixty-seven-year-old Michael Angus was arrested at his home in Star on Friday and charged with sexual abuse of a child and lewd conduct.
He was arraigned Monday before Magistrate Judge Cathleen Irby.
The complaint against Angus states that he engaged in lewd conduct with a 10-year-old girl one time in October. It also states he had sexual contact with an 8-year-old girl multiple times during a 12- to 18-month period. A report from the Ada County Sheriff's Office states the abuse occurred at Angus' home on Verdant Place in Star.
His defense attorney argued bond should be set at just $25,000.
I realize the severity and the sanctions are severe if he is convicted. We see these cases day in and day out in Ada County. You never see a million dollar bond with somebody who is 67 years old, no prior criminal history, gainfully employed, owns his home, ties to the community, and is not a risk. So based on that, I think $25,000 is appropriate. It will ensure Mr. Angus makes it to all court appearances.
The prosecuting attorney said $1 million bond is appropriate considering the charges.
I think the facts and the complaints speak for themselves in this case. The allegations are very serious. We have allegations of abuse against two very young girls in a short period of time. I think that given that, the report indicates the defendant has contact with minor children on a fairly regular basis and witnesses had stated he is very touchy with those children and it's been concerning to them.
The report from the Ada County Sheriff's Office indicated Angus has had access to many young children. Judge Irby asked the prosecuting attorney to explain how Angus has had contact with children. The attorney replied that he has been known to babysit a little girl up until recently.
Judge Irby agreed with the state and set bond for Angus at $1 million. He is due back in court on Dec. 5 for a preliminary hearing.
Ada County detectives are asking for the community's help to identify other possible victims, after receiving information that Angus has had access to many young children and spent time with children on multiple occasions. Including visits which were supervised and unsupervised by other adults.
Anyone who has information about the children who have been in Angus' care or who may have had contact with him are asked to call Ada County Sheriff's Office non-emergency dispatch at 377-3790 or Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.

5. SW Idaho man faces more child sex abuse charges
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Ada County Sheriff's Office says a 67-year-old southwest Idaho man awaiting trial on lewd conduct charges has been arrested on suspicion of lewd conduct and four counts of use of a child in sexually-exploitative material.
Police say Michael James Angus of Star was taken into custody on Friday.
Angus was first arrested Nov. 18 after authorities said he had inappropriate contact with two elementary-aged girls at his home. He was charged with lewd conduct and sexual abuse of a minor. He posted bond on Dec. 6.
Police say that while investigating those charges, they found additional evidence of sexual contact involving one of the elementary-aged girls that happened before the Nov. 18 arrest.
Police say they also found in his possession pornographic images of one of the victims. -
6. Sheriff: 67-year-old Star man arrested for sex abuse of a minor
STAR, Idaho - The Ada County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 67-year-old Star man for lewd conduct and sexual abuse of a minor.
Michael Angus was arrested at his home on Verdant Place in Star and booked into the Ada County Jail Friday afternoon.
The sheriff's office says they began their investigation last week after receiving a third-party report that Angus had one-time sexual contact with an elementary-aged girl at his home.
During their investigation, sheriff's officials say they learned of a second child victim who they say Angus inappropriately touched multiple times over a 12-18 month period.
Ada County Sheriff's Detectives also say they have information that Angus had access to many young children, sometimes while unsupervised.
Detectives are asking the community's help in finding any other potential victims.
Anyone with information about children who may have been in Angus' care are urged to call Ada County Dispatch at 377-6790 or Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
