Floodlit recently added two men to our database. Dick Jensen was a Mormon dentist in McMinnville, Oregon.
Douglas S. Smith Jr. was a Boy Scout executive in Oregon when he suspended Jensen’s BSA registration after Jensen attempted to register despite a prior conviction for sexual abuse around approximately 1980.
According to hand written notes on Jensen’s BSA “perversion file” Jensen had a previous criminal case and civil case:
-“July 11, 1980 pleaded no contest to charge of sexual abuse in the second degree, Judge Curt Rossman, Yamhill Circuit County Court, Oregon.”
-“civil suit paid $15,000 to settle out of court sexual abuse case”
-“he made lewd and lascivious and improper advances to [redacted] and [redacted]”
-“allegedly fondled these women while they were under nitrous oxide in his dental office.”
Initially, Floodlit was reviewing Jensen’s BSA “perversion file” when we discovered that Smith, who appears in the file, was convicted of possession and distribution of CSAM in 2005.
Smith was not Mormon. We have decided to list Smith in our database because the Mormon church and the BSA were deeply enmeshed together for over 100 years and Mormon officials routinely met with BSA executives. Also, our goal is to provide transparency on this topic and since Smith was later convicted of offenses similar to those for which he suspended men from involvement in the BSA, we have listed him. We have plans to create a separate section in our database for offenders who fall into similar non-LDS categories, and then Smith’s case report will be transferred there.
“According to reports, Douglas used to report alleged child sexual abuse cases and bad seed volunteers from Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, plus Oregon to the enterprise’s confidential files at one point.” The Cinemaholic
We will continue to search for any of those cases that are linked to Smith that are LDS to add to Floodlit.
