Case report
Tom Schofield was a Mormon bishop in Elk Grove, California. In a 2024 civil lawsuit, an abuse survivor sued the Mormon church saying that Schofield sexually abused him in 2004-2005 when he was 16 years old, and that church leaders failed to report the abuse to police or provide emotional support.
Some of the alleged abuse took place in Oakland and Salt Lake LDS temples as well as the bishop’s office in an Elk Grove LDS church building.
Schofield’s uncle and cousin also were LDS church members who allegedly sexually abused children.
