In January, Hansen was arrested on suspicion of eight second-degree felony charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to the police affidavit, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children received a tip from a social media platform that an account was sharing videos and images of child sex abuse material (CSAM) on the platform.
The affidavit stated that the account had done this eight different times. The user information included an email address and phone number connected to Hansen’s home.
FLOODLIT spoke with a person familiar with Hansen who asked to remain anonymous. Hansen was not Mormon at the time of his alleged sex crimes in 2024, and did not have any religious affiliation at the time of his arrest, the person said. They added that Hansen was raised in the Mormon church and married in a Mormon temple.

Retired Jackson Hole Fire/EMS chief Brady Hansen, 54, was arrested on Monday by the Brigham City (Utah) Police Department, charged with sexual exploitation of a minor.
Hansen had been serving as the fire chief for Tremonton City, Utah. He is being held in the Box Elder County jail in Brigham City on a $50,000 cash bond.
The arrest comes on the heels of a two-month investigation through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the Utah Attorney General’s Office of Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The case was referred to the neighboring community of Brigham City because Hansen was an employee of Tremonton City, according to local news reports.

According to court documents, Hansen admitted to possessing videos that were originally identified in a report submitted to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children from the social media platform Kik in November.
According to court documents, Hansen was arrested on eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor — one count for each digital file shared, according to Kik’s report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Police also seized phones and tablets that will be further analyzed. Court documents state that Hansen had videos that allegedly contained images of preteen girls saved on his phone.
Hansen has been terminated from his position at the Tremonton Fire Department.
“Based on serious criminal charges being filed against Chief Ned Brady Hansen, Tremonton City has terminated his employment, effective immediately,” Tremonton Mayor Lyle Holmgren told the Gephardt Daily.
Hansen served as Jackson Hole’s fire chief for five years, starting at the end of 2017 and retiring from the position in October 2022.
According to the Jackson Hole Daily’s sister publication, the Jackson Hole News&Guide, Hansen served as a firefighter for 30 years. He said in a 2022 article that he was looking forward to spending more time with family and starting his own business.
After his retirement in Jackson, Hansen quickly took the position of fire chief of the Tremonton Fire Department, serving the small community tucked between Utah state highways 15 and 84.
Tremonton is about 20 miles west of Logan, Utah, where Hansen served most of his life as a firefighter before coming to Jackson in 2017.
